Rahula was son of the Prince Siddhartha (the Buddha-to-be) and Princess Yasodhara. Having approached the Buddha for his "inheritance", he was ordained at the age of seven as the first samanera (novice monk). Under the guidance of the Buddha and two mentors, Venerable Sariputra and Maudgalyayana, Rahula became foremost in being "anxious" for spiritual training, becoming an arhat at the age of 18.
This artwork depicts the arhat Rahula reflecting in silence.
